Don’t throw out that old umbrella, transform it!!
I wonder if we can go through the city dump and retrieve old umbrellas (figuratively speaking) strip them and crochet a brand new one and sell each one for $1,000.00 – $5,000.00 each, then we could talk about turning trash into cash.
It takes a certain type of crochet artist to make that happen, a desperate one?? no, a visionary crochet artist…
That is so cool….I need to try it

Me too, we are trying to find a nylon thread that is water repellent any suggestions?

How amazing to produce something like that. I’d love to try it but I know I’d end up with a floppy, scramble of string. Any tips anyone? – fibre, stiches??

It just take practice and lots of frogging when it’s not correct lol…. I have not done any research into it yet but I have a feeling nylon could be right 🙂

OMG this is a great idea. My mother left me a lovely umbrella that needs recovering but no-one will take it on. Maybe I should do it myself and use it as a parasol.

Too funny. I was just thinking of this a few days ago. Living in the desert you see ppl all the time using regular umbrellas to keep the sun off. Next time one of mine breaks I’ll have to play with this.

yes, i need to see if there is some way to make it uv safe and at the same time waterproof …any ideas?? 🙂

Nylon? Not sure how uv and waterproof it is though.

Those are awesome!!! I have a (commercial) on that is wooden frame with Battenburg lace on it. I fell in love with Abby’s umbrella on the TV show NCIS. The photos of the one with the pineapple pattern reminds me of that one. Love them all!!!!

My problem with umbrellas is the metal part is usually what gets destroyed first. Their not as sturdy of dancing canes as some little girls believe they are.

lol!!! so i guess we need to find a way to fix the metal parts before we embark on this journey 🙂 we could make a fortune…..

A desperate artist would turn the dump find into $5.00…desperately enamored with the craft to the point where money doesn’t matter, anyway. (And aren’t we all?)
Yes…it would take a visionary…I have seen these, priced well into the hundreds, into the thousands, and thought, “I can do that!”
