The Crab Stitch is the single crochet stitch going the opposite way. It is used to add the finishing touches on a project. I love the versatility of the single crochet.
The top photograph on the left shows the last row without the finishing “touch” it looks okay but not “nice”. Then you add the crab stitch and the project goes from nice to really nice and professional looking. The photograph on the top right shows the close up of the last row.
I like the way the finished beanie looks, it looks like I coud sell it to a chic boutique 🙂

Isn’t that crab sittch (aka reverse single crochet) da bomb? Now, try a reverse “extended” single crochet. It looks wonderful, and it’s more flexible, too. Working in reverse, insert your hook, yarn over, draw up a loop, work off ONE loop. YO and work off the last two loops. This is just something I thought to do with the wool scarf, which was worked in extended singles…I thought, why not an extended crab stitch? I can not have made that up. It has to have existed for a bazollion years. Anyway, I thought of using it the other day, and was pleased with the result. I have a hunch you’ll enjot that stitch.

Ugh…in some cases, that’s a detriment! Years ago, working in a small diner near my house, I would make my toys at lunch time. We had regular customers in that place, and one family, with two young boys, became my “product testers.” I was working on a stuffed animal head once, and tossed it to one of the boys, saying, “Go long!” He caught it, and because there was no one else at the diner at the moment, the boss (OH, I miss that guy!) said, “Let them play.”
Well, they did! They tossed, caught, wrestled with that elephant head..and when Mom freaked out that they “were going to destroy it,” I told her, “If they can, the toy is no good.”
I instructed the boys to, “Try to kill it,” which they did, with gleeful abandon.
They tried! As much as eight and ten-year-old boys could try, they could not kill that toy.
My next toy, after that, was a crocheted, stuffed football, just for them. 😉

it is an official stitch you can see the tutorials on you tube..i have some stitches that i came up with but i’m holding on to them, who knows if they exist somewhere in this universe 🙂
